Wilton is at the junction between the Salisbury to Bristol line and the Salisbury to Exeter line.
It is 7 miles to Stonehenge Visitor Centre. A consultants report by Atkins shows an economic case and a developer for housing at the site has been identified. Station cost is in the order of £15m.

Other proposed stations:

Corsham

Corsham has been campaigning for reinstatement of their station, which is on the Bristol Temple Meads to London line between Bath and Chippenham. The problem is identifying a stopping service to serve the station now electrification provides a faster London service timetable. Linking Bristol with the East-West line is one long term option. A pdf copy of the presentation made to Corsham Civic Society 29th April 19 is available in the Members Area under TransWilts topics.

Devizes Parkway

Devizes is the largest town in Wiltshire without a station. The proposal is for a Parkway station at Lydeway on the A360 6Km south of Devizes. Introduction of a stopping London – Taunton service on the Berks & Hants line to serve Bedwyn, Devizes, Westbury and Frome would transform mid Wiltshire’ population connectivity.

Porton

Porton Science Park is developing and has been identified as a potentially important strategic and economic site by Swindon & Wiltshire LEP. The site is on the Salisbury to London Waterloo line. There will be resistance to introducing a further stop on the London service close to Grateley Station 10km away. The economic case and service strategy is yet to be produced.

Royal Wootton Bassett

A new station site East of Royal Wootton Bassett junction close to J16 of the M4 is proposed. The Parkway station would serve to relieve congestion to Swindon centre. The economic case, like Corsham’s, depends upon a stopping service. Although it could be served by an hourly TransWilts timetable. Line capacity is a significant issue to Swindon and beyond to Didcot – some significant infrastructure decisions will have to be made. The East-West rail connection is a long term possibility.
