Passenger Entries and Exits
Chippenham CPM SN15 3QQ
Chippenham (population 45,337) is on the main line from London to Bristol and is one of the principal towns in Wiltshire. It acts as an interchange for trains from the south of the County via Melksham on the TransWilts line. An original Brunel station it opened on 30 June 1841 and Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s office building still stands adjacent to the short stay carpark. There is a grade II listed Brunel 26 foot span viaduct to the west of the station carrying the railway over Chippenham New Road at river level.
Operated by First Great Western, and owned by National Rail, the electrification of the line is taking place in 2015 and 2016, and when completed IEP trains will replace the aging HST diesels. Entry is via a currently disused platform 3 and the island 1/2 platform is reached via a pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge crossing the west of the station has been removed to be replaced by a higher bridge for the electrified service and the inclusion of passenger lifts.
Approval has been obtained via the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Fund for a multi-level car park spanning the line adding 450 car parking places and entry/exit on either side of the line. TransWilts cic are proposing that the 3rd platform be brought back into use for regional services as part of the proposals for a service for Corsham station. Chippenham would become a regional interchange with the main line service.

News and Events
Chippenham Station Hub project has been awarded funding via the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership to build a multi-level car park on both the north and south sides of the station with a link bridge over the railway. Planned to be completed after electrification of the line in 2017/2018. The facility will provide 450 additional parking spaces and an entrance/exit linked to either side of the station, with passenger access via ticket gates directly to the platform. Lifts to the island platform are being installed in 2015.
