A combination of railway engineering work and a road closure of the M4 could make travel difficult this weekend (22nd/23rd March)

From 7pm on Friday until 6am on Monday the road will be closed in both directions between junctions 18 and 19 to allow the Badminton Road A432 overbridge to be demolished after it was found to be unsafe last year.

The work coincides with extensive track work by Network Rail on Sunday.    Work near London Paddington means a reduced service all day with services to and from Bristol Temple Meads reduced to hourly.    These will also run via Newbury because of other works between Didcot Parkway and Swindon.  This means they will not be able to call at Didcot, Swindon or Chippenham.  Replacement buses will be in operation but some will take significantly longer because of the M4 closure.  GWR has announced tickets valid for Sunday can also be used the day before or the day after.

Similar rail work will also be taking place the following weekend (29th/30th March) but the M4 will be open as normal.
